120 months, 3,650 days—A WHOLE DECADE(!) of making eating healthily easy.

 

Thirty years back, Tim Varney, our founder and Managing Director, set out to reimagine vending. With Revive, our parent company, we became one of the first to add card readers to our machines and use digital sales tracking (most companies still don’t utilise telemetry). Thanks to this technology, we can keep our machines stocked up and running smoothly, making sure everything’s kept in top shape. And it was a hit!

In the 00s, the legendary TV chef, Jamie Oliver, kicked off his healthy eating crusade, drawing attention to the concerning amount of unhealthy snacks and drinks available to kids at schools. His mission, which ignited widespread change, caught not only the government’s attention but Revive’s as well. We realised the need for substantial changes on our part and the wider vending industry.

 

Revive took a leap of faith into the world of healthy vending—a concept still in its early stages—starting with a simple question: How can we make healthy eating easy?

Traditional vending was a safety net because ten years ago, healthy snacks in vending machines was almost unheard of. Despite a notable surge in interest around 2010, as seen in Google search trends, vending machines continued to neglect alternative options.

 

In 2014, Doozy was created.

From a simple concept into a tangible thing of health and style, we’d done it. Except, back then we weren’t called Doozy. We began as “Honest,” a name that captured the spirit of transparency and quality. But, the vision hit an unexpected obstacle: A trademark conflict with a certain, popular burger chain forced us to scrap the name before we could even begin.

Back to the drawing board, that setback sparked a new wave of creativity. After countless brainstorms, “Doozy” emerged—a word meaning something outstanding or different. It clicked immediately, a bold and memorable name that perfectly matched our unique vision.

 

Complete with its distinctive and iconic wood-clad vending machines, we took something entirely new into the market. Luckily, the idea took off.

Still unsure if anyone would understand the vision, the first significant step came: On September 22, 2014, ten years back, the installation of our inaugural Doozy machine at Solent University. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in vending—a window of opportunity for delicious and healthy alternative snacks and drinks to shine and set a new standard in the industry. Since then, we’ve continued to expand and push boundaries, driven by the same belief that vending can be convenient and healthy. 

 

And as we look to the future, we remain dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what vending can be. Over the past ten years, we’ve achieved incredible things, leaving one question: what will the next decade hold? The future may be uncertain, but one thing is for sure—we’re only just getting started…
